In our first session, the aim is to understand what’s brought you to therapy and why now feels like the right time to reach out. We’ll ask questions to get a sense of who you are, what you’re going through, and what you hope to achieve.
Whether you come in with a clear idea of what you want to work on or feel unsure about where to start, that’s completely okay. We’ll guide you through the process and work together to make sense of things.
You’ll also have the chance to ask any questions—whether about what to expect, how we work, or simply to get to know us better. -
The first session is about understanding the dynamics of your relationship and what brought you to therapy. We’ll create a safe and open space for both of you to share your perspectives, ensuring each of you feels heard and respected.
We’ll ask questions to clarify your experiences and begin shaping a path forward together. Before diving in, we’ll go over a few practical details about how couples therapy works.
You’ll also have the opportunity to ask any questions—about what to expect, how we work, or anything else on your mind. -
A standard session lasts for 50 minutes.

The frequency of therapy sessions depends on your needs, goals, and personal circumstances. For many clients, weekly sessions are a great starting point. This consistency helps build momentum, provides a regular space for reflection, and fosters a strong therapeutic relationship.
As you progress, your needs may shift. Some clients move to fortnightly or monthly sessions as they gain more insight and feel more confident managing things on their own, while others prefer to continue weekly sessions for ongoing support.
Ultimately, the schedule is flexible and tailored to you. During our sessions, we’ll discuss what feels most helpful and adjust the frequency as needed to ensure you’re getting the most out of therapy.
Remember, this is your space, and you have the freedom to decide what works best for your journey. -
The number of sessions you’ll need depends on your unique situation, goals, and preferences. In our initial session, we’ll explore your needs and what you hope to achieve through counselling. Some clients come to address a specific issue, which might require just a few focused sessions, while others might prefer ongoing therapy to work through deeper patterns or multiple areas of concern.
For some, therapy becomes a lifelong process and relationship—a space for continuous self-reflection, growth, and support through different stages of life. Whether you’re seeking short-term help or long-term guidance, we’ll work together to create a plan that feels right for you.
It’s also important to note that the pace of therapy is guided by you. You’re welcome to attend as many or as few sessions as you feel are beneficial, and we’ll regularly check in to ensure our work is aligned with your needs.
Therapy is a collaborative process, and our focus is always on supporting you in a way that feels meaningful and helpful. -
It can be helpful to have an idea of what you’d like to talk about, but it’s perfectly okay if you don’t feel prepared. Sometimes, simply allowing the session to unfold naturally can be just as meaningful, if not more so, than being overly prepared.
Therapy is an ongoing process of reflection—on what has been helpful, what hasn’t, and how you're feeling about working with your therapist. It’s important to bring up anything that doesn’t feel quite right or any lingering questions you might have. This openness and curiosity about the process can help guide the work we do together. -
